Alcune riflessioni sul rapporto tra Islam e democrazia
Abstract
This paper aims to identify points of encounter and friction between Islamic political culture and the principles of Western democracies, in order to evaluate possible developments in the relationship between the Western and Arab-Islamic world. The study is based above all on a careful analysis of the political vision of Islam, as it can be inferred from its sacred texts, also taking into consideration the problem of the often incorrect interpretation of such texts, easily distorted for political purposes that have nothing to do with the religious and spiritual dimension of Islam. From the study emerges, in any case, the substantial difference between the political perspective of the West and that of the Arab world when, giving up any secular vision, it becomes conditioned by its religious dimension.
